PRIMARY FUNCTION:

At Target in India, our US Sales and Use Tax Team is part of the engine powering compliance with the many tax rules and regulations governing our business operations.  This team works closely with their colleagues in the US to navigate the complex world of indirect tax laws, meticulously preparing filings, reports and payments that keep our business running efficiently.

The Senior Manager will be responsible for various aspects of the sales and use and indirect tax functions managed at Target In India.  This role primarily leads the Sales tax compliance which includes reviewing sales and use tax workpapers, payments, returns and reconciliations to ensure accurate and timely filings.  As a Senior Manager, you will also be responsible for leading a team of tax experts and advisors and support the growth, development and cross training of team members.  This role will also focus on the below areas –

  • Ensure appropriate compliance with all indirect tax regulations and meeting statutory deadlines
  • Support in filing responses to Sales / local tax authorities in relation to queries / clarifications on the returns filed, payments made, prepayment or filing thresholds, audit queries etc
  • Support in the review of Resale certificates to be shared with the vendors upon request
  • Develop and implement work plans and timeliness to proactively prepare for peak workload demands
  • Uphold best in class business control processes and tax documentation to be used for tax and financial statement audits
  • Monitor tax legislative changes (both proposed and enacted) in order to quantify and communicate the impact to Target
  • Liaise with HQ tax team and provide periodic updates on status of deliverables
  • Maintain and update tax compliance calendars
  • Leverage your strong communication and problem solving skills while advising on tax implications to internal business partners
  • Ensure compliance with applicable internal controls, policies and procedures.

Working within Tax, your mission will be to drive value-added work and support our core retail business goals.  Our tax team focuses on all aspects of tax reporting including enhancing productivity and efficiency of core compliance through process and technology, monitoring tax risk and opportunities across all tax disciplines, engaging and educating Finance and the broader organization regarding tax considerations, and prioritizing team resources to support key work streams.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of Sales Tax experience with an accounting firm or equivalent experience in a large corporate tax department
  • Bachelors or Masters degree or equivalent combination of professional education and experience
  • Ability to lead and manage process transitions with a focus on timely completion.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel.  Experience with Vertex and SAP or similar tax software and general ledger system, and data analytics tools such as Alteryx, PowerBI, or other analytics software is preferred.
  • Proven ability to effectively develop, manage and inspire team members and work together as a team
  • Excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work independently with limited direction and guidance
  • A proactive mindset and keen analytical ability, attention to detail, and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
